Stuffed Up and Mentally Blocked

I’ve been trying to motivate myself to work on a big, self driven project all week. All month, actually. No dice. Isn’t it funny how when you’re working, you find all of this time to do other things, like crafting and web surfing and etsy-shop-updating? Well, now that I have all of this free time, I’m not sure what I want anymore. Sigh. On top of that, I’ve caught Paul’s cold. So, Law and Order Marathons are looking pretty good right now.

cutting strips

But today I went ahead and started on my sister’s baby quilt. I have a very Nike attitude when it comes to quilting, and crafting in general: I just do it. So, I cut up a bunch of strips and lay them together, and if I like it, I sew them. Trust me, it will all work out in the end.

part of one row

Here’s a portion of the first long strip. I think there will be 5 of them for a hefty crib size quilt. It’s nice to think that this one won’t take 7 months to make (I hope!).

  • String and strip quilts (and projects) are my very fave! I keep a huge sack at my side when I'm sewing and any scraps I just cut right then and toss into the bag. I am always pulling them out any which way and sewing them into blocks and log cabins (my other fave!) Love the combo you have going here. Maybe if I get off my butt someday and finish, I can show the scrappy strip quilt (that is currently just a top) I have almost done!

  • Oh, I so love the look of the strips together. I'm going to have to dig deeper into your blog here cos I loves me some quilting but recently have thought about deviating from the "pattern" so to speak. Love the strip quilt! Woot!

  • I just the the un-babyish quilts! That is awesome, can't wait to see the finished product.

  • I'm exactly the same way - I only have ideas when I'm crazy busy and have limited time to complete them! The way I work around that when I have tons of time on my hands and feel sluggish is doing everything under a time limit, so it's :"draw something, but only take 5 minutes", "paint something, but only take an hour", and so forth. Sometimes the time limits help! :)

I share your Nike spirit with crafts, sometimes to my project's demise :) I just don't have the patience to do a lot of planning....or measuring. I love the fabrics you've chosen and can't wait to see the finished product.
