These turned out really fabulous! And the basket is really awesome. I was looking at one of my baskets that I love but that is falling apart and I wished I knew how to fix it. :0)

These eggs are adorable! I can't wait to try out the pattern. Also, beautiful basket. I can just visualize you skipping (but be careful that the apples don't bounce out!).....

Katelyn,
I embroidered the face with french knots. If you think they stick out too much, maybe try a smaller yarn (or, if the yarn is plied- ie splits into sections, just pull a section or two out, about 18" long, and use that to thread the needle)-- that will give you a smaller less tuggy eye. There's really no one way to do it. I just knot the thread, go in between a stitch, pull the needle up through the center of a stitch (so it won't slip out) and pull it snug so the original knot then gets hidden inside the animal. Then I do my embroidery, bring the needle out on the back side of the work, pull it tight (so that the egg gets squished, even), tie a knot, cut it, and then pull the egg back ito it's normal size so that end gets hidden somewhere in the polyfil. I hope that illuminates the process somewhat!
The other thing to remember is that newborns don't have the finger dexterity to pinch and rip something out (takes them at least 6 months to gain that). As long as their mom/dad checks the toys occasionally to make sure nothing comes loose, the embroidered knot should be fine.
