Crochet Classes in April

The schedule of classes at Yarnivore is up and I thought I’d share the crochet classes I am in teaching in case my local readers are interested. I also want to mention that if you’re only an hour or two away, I frequently schedule private lessons (and group private lessons- if you have a few friends that want to learn a technique and make a day of it in San Antonio).  The lessons are very affordable at $15/hour (rate is lower for more people), so if you’ve been wanting to learn something, just let me know.

Basic Crochet Beanie

For classes that still have openings, the first one starts this Sunday: Crocheting in the Round (Basic Hat). This class is more of an “advanced beginner” class and is a good follow up to my Learn to Crochet class. We’ll be making my Quick and Simple Crochet Hat with bulky yarn, and if time allows, a flower to add to the hat or wear on your coat. This class will focus on how to read patterns (the hat is sized for several sizes- baby, child, adult and adult large- you can pick whichever you like) and different methods of working in the round.  This class meets on 2 Sundays, April 11th and 18th (Currently rescheduling!), from 12-2 pm. Cost is $30 plus materials (yarn, patttern, hook).

I’m also offering my intermediate class: Creating Texture. In this class, we’ll create all kinds of fun textured stitches, such as post stitches, bobbles, puffs, and more! I’ll bring in many of the swatches from my book and we’ll work a few rows of each. This is a good class for those of you who have been making lots of things with simple stitches and might be a little bored. We don’t focus on pattern reading in this class, it’s more of a freeform style class–but you will learn how to make many of the stitches used in patterns–which means you can jump into more intermediate level patterns after taking the class. This class meets 2 saturdays, April 10th and 17th from 12-2 pm. Cost is $30 plus materials (yarn, hook, optional signed copy of Crochet Adorned–if you want the patterns for all of the swatches. A worksheet will be provided).   This one is almost full- but has a few spots left!

my first crocheted socks!

Near the end of April and going into May, I’ll also be teaching Crocheted Socks! Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t crochet a sock–they work up quickly and are nice and cozy for wearing around the house. Plus, you get to play with fun sock yarns. Students should have a firm grip on basic crochet stitches to take this class, and we’ll learn lots of new ones: foundation stitches, crocheted ribbing, extended stitches, and more. I’ll walk you through all of the hard parts and send you off each week with a little bit of homework. At the end you’ll have one sock– but if you like, you can work both of them at the same time (working one at home during the week) to eliminate second sock syndrome! This class meets on Saturdays, April 24, May 1st and 8th and is $45 plus materials (book, yarn, hook, stitch markers).

If you’re interested in any of these classes, please call Yarnivore to sign up. Happy Crocheting!

love the hat! Could I ask a "favor"? Would it be possible for you to post a tutorial on slip-stitches when working on a round piece? I have tried my darndest to learn from versions out here in the internet world and yet when I try I always seem to add a stitch or my round still looks wonky. I want to crochet in the round with a good turn -- not just spiral crochet. help!!
