Yarn-Cation + Upcoming Events

All’s quiet on the blog front because I took a break. A real true break. We were supposed to go on vacation but since my other half’s employer seems to be… let’s say, less than helpful, when it comes to vacation requests, I ended up going to Austin to hang out with my sis+nephew instead. No problem, I loved hanging out with these two.

And with all the money I saved by sitting on my duff –really, I watched the entire third Season of Mad Men including all of the special features–I figured it would be okay if I made a trip to Hill Country Weavers.

yummy yarn

I walked away with 2 skeins of papery Habu Textiles yarn– the purple is A-60, 4 mm shoshenshi viscose (100 % linen), the black is #N-35A viscose sizing (100% rayon). What the heck that means, I don’t know,  but I’m going to do something neat with these at some point. I was thinking maybe a sun hat or a table runner or a shawl or… The beautiful skein in the middle is Handmaiden Double Sea Silk. Let’s just say I’ve been drooling over it for a very long time, and I probably should have purchased 2 skeins if I want to actually do something with it. Alas, I’ll pet it until I decide what it wants to become. It’s amazingly soft and I love the color combo. There, now wasn’t that as neat as a photo of the Grand Canyon? That’s what I’m telling myself.

And a heads up for locals, I’ll be giving a talk at the Westfall Public Library this coming Wednesday, September 22nd at 6:30 PM. I’ll speak about Crochet Adorned, life as a crochet designer, + maybe show you some sneak peaks of my next book. I’ll also do a demo on how to crochet a really. simple. flower. I’m trying to figure out just  how really simple it should be, considering that I wrangled some non-hooker friends to join us. But, I’ll try my best to come up with something everyone can do, so come see–hooks in hand! You’ll also be able to buy my book (and get it signed_, if you like, with 10 percent of sales going to the library. I grew up going to this library, so it has a special place in my heart.

And I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned it yet, but I added classes for October to the Yarnivore calendar. And just as a reminder, I also do *very affordable* private lessons, which you can schedule by calling the store. These are perfect if you live out of town but will be in San Antonio for the day.

Oh! Oh! And, I’m a featured designer on Knitpicks right now. Remember, I have three patterns available for sale there at a discounted price of $1.99 a pop- click here to see the neat little banner they made for me and find my patterns!
