Day 6: Getting Loopy, Stefanie Japel, + More
Sorry for this late-in-the-day post, I’m still recovering from all of the fun at the DFW Fiber Fest this weekend. I taught a couple of classes, dropped some cash with the vendors, and learned a couple of cool things myself. One of my students showed me how she knooked (a combination of knitting and hooking, but not the same thing as Tunisian crochet), and that was pretty cool. I love that I get to learn from teaching! I also signed some books + got to hang out with Robyn Chachula and Mary Beth Temple, and the lovely ladies of DFWFF.
Sadly, I hardly took any photos, so just look at this one of me and Robyn Chachula signing our dual baby books. I can assure you that it was lots of fun + I loved the strong crochet vibe going on there. Also loved: meeting some of you at my book signing in the Knitting Lagniappe booth. PS: The Knitting Lagniappe ladies are wonderful, wonderful people!
Today’s portion of the tour contains 2 stops, both late in the day, but both will be just as interesting tomorrow. First up is Stefanie Japel, author of many fine knitting books including Fitted Knits and Glam Knits. She’s also a mama of 2 adorable girls, and she told me a few months ago that she was getting “crochet- curious”! I thought a review from this mostly-knitter would be an interesting addition to the tour. I’ve been paying attention to Stefanie’s work since my Adorn days, and introduced myself at last summer’s TNNA. Stefanie also teaches Knit Lab, an intro to knitting class on Sympoz.com (where my crochet classes will be soon) so you may want to check out her course if you are Knit-curious. Like the rest of us, she just got back from a weekend of teaching, so if her post is not up yet, keep checking.
Later tonight, I’ll be a guest on the lovely Mary Beth Temple’s podcast, Getting Loopy, live at 9 PM EST. Mary Beth was the speaker at the DFW FF and she read us some funny tidbits from her books, The Secret Language of Knitters and Hooked for Life: Adventures of a Crochet Zealot
. She’s a writer, pattern designer, podcaster, mom and funny lady. And I didn’t manage to take a picture of us this weekend, but we did engage in some fun chats. Darnit! Next time. Tune in live or after the show, I always enjoy listening to it.
