Signs of Life
Whew. It’s been a whirlwind of visits, working, and trying to sneak in some crochet time. So far so good, I’m really enjoying getting up and going to work every day, being surrounded by smart people and thinking about possibilities.
My sister and nephew were in town last weekend so we crammed in a lot of Colorado goodness, including a trip to the Hammond’s Candy factory in Denver. So much sweetness.
We also rode the cog railway all the way to the top of Pikes Peak. I did not feel great at the top and I think they have perfectly timed the free time at the top because any longer and I thought I’d pass out. The views were gorgeous, though.
On the way back we stopped by Garden of the Gods, because, why not? Tegue said he wants to climb to the top of one of those big rocks one day when he is older.
I blocked my Spring Showers Shawl tonight–sorry for the so-so instagram photo. I used Freia Handpaint yarn (my last purchase at Yarnivore) and pretty much followed the pattern except that I added an extra repeat and 2 rows of solid double crochet (with peaks and valleys) at the border, to make it stand out and so that I could USE ALL THE YARN. I’m slightly disappointed with the color change- it’s supposed to be an ombre but the jump between yellow and pink seems stark–it might have to do with the crochet stitches not blending the yarn quite as well as knitting. However, I’m much more in love with it now that it’s blocking. Blocking: it makes all the difference!
I also started a new Swing Set Cardigan for fun. It’s so relaxing and easy to crochet, if I do say so myself. The yarn is Sublime cashmere merino silk DK, luscious! It glides right off of the hook.
This weekend I hope to take it easy, maybe let my brain rest for a bit. A nice long walk with the dog, a home cooked dinner, eight hours of consecutive sleep…ahhhh.
