Knitting for Fun
As I mentioned before, it’s nice to go back to dabbling in different things. This funny thing happened when I was designing for a living where I found it hard to work on things “for fun” when I had so much “work” crocheting to do. Now I can just make whatever I want, and it’s liberating.
I started the Orbs Cowl by Robin Ulrich from KnitScene Accessories this Wednesday with my friend (and coworker) Grace. Grace already knows the basics of knitting but was getting stuck on what to knit or how to progress. When I saw this project, I knew I wanted to make it, and I also thought it would be a great way to keep her going and teach her some things. There are knits, purls, yarn over, k2togs and P2togs. But, there’s only 4 “pattern rows” for every 14, so it’s relatively mindless and easy. She is off like a trooper and I went off too, and finished it this weekend. I used Malabrigo Chunky in carrot, and size 10 needles. I am a rebel, and did not check my gauge– so ended a few welts early as it seems plenty tall.
Well, actually, there are ends to weave in and blocking to do. But we all know that could take years. The knitting, however, is finished. I’ll get the details tied up by the time it turns cold. And one day maybe I’ll take some finished photos not on my phone….this makes 3 projects that need a final photo!
It’s funny, but I almost wish it wasn’t as quick as now I need to find something to work on on the plane to TNNA. Any suggestions?
