Weaving Marathon
One of the upsides of having a job that is not my hobby, is that when I find a few spare hours I can play with craft stuff just for fun. No pattern to write or deadline to meet.
This weekend I broke into my cricket loom, and took Angela Tong’s Weaving class on Craftsy. I successfully warped my loom (I hope. Above is before I put the strands through the slots).
Until it was 8 hours later and my 6 ft+ scarf was ready to be taken off the loom. I used Brown Sheep Nature Spun (wool) for the warp and random stripes of Kristin Nicholas’ Julia yarn for the weft.
This evening I steamed the blazes out of it and trimmed all the ends. Hopefully there’ll be a reveal post at some point, but don’t hold your breath. It’s a good first attempt–far from perfect, but I’ve learned and taught enough to know that no one is amazing at anything the first time. Lots of practice is the only thing that builds skill. And I can see myself getting some more practice– this was incredibly fun and I have plenty of stash to blast through!! Now if only that 10-dent heddle would stop being on backorder…
How did you spend your weekend?
