About Me

LPermann_sm
I’m a native Texan who has lived in NYC, Bozeman MT and now I reside in Denver CO. Crocheting is my passion, but I love to sew, knit and quilt too. I wear many hats: I’m a crochet and craft designer, writer, editor and a crochet/knitting teacher. I work full time as an Acquisitions Editor at Craftsy.com, and I also teach three of my own classes online

I am the author of three books: Crochet Adorned, Little Crochet and Sugar and Spice. I love creating modern patterns using quality yarns, showing crochet in its best lightl! I have contributed crochet and craft projects to several books, including Stitch and Bitch Crochet, Hooked:A Crocheter’s Stash of Wit and Wisdom, The Crafter Culture Handbook, Bead Simple, Vogue Knitting on the Go: Grannies, Button it Up, and Knitting for Good.

My work has also been featured in many magazines including Crochet Today, Interweave Crochet, Knit Simple, Knitting Today!, Living CraftsBUST, Craft:, Make, Sew Simple, CraftStylish and Sew Stylish. My patterns have also been featured on the TV show Knit and Crochet Now. I was the founding Craft and Decorating Editor of Adorn magazine (short lived but well loved!).

    Hello,

I am interested in learning to crochet and knit. Is one craft easier for a beginner? I read your post distinguishing the two crafts (very informative - thanks!) and learned that crocheting can turn out a product faster.

Also, I am allergic to wool and not a fan of acrylic. Are there alternative fabrics for me to crochet and/or knit with and if so, is one approach better given my wool allergy?

Both are easy to learn, so just go ahead and start with one. There are plenty of other yarns you can use- cotton, tencel, hemp, bamboo, etc. Have fun!

I wish you taught knitting classes.  I have been trying to learn to knit for years and I cannot master that craft.  I can crochet with the best of them, but knitting has me beat.

There are plenty of knitting teachers out there (I taught that too, actually)-- don't let not learning from me stop you.
